hey all, new guy on this forum
I basically wont be building this till august/september time but want ideas what I can get. I will be studying digital media at uni, doing stuff like CGI video/photo editing so I would think either 4qauds or/and 4 gigs of ram would be needed.
To be honest I'm not sure I will game a lot so not really sure if i would want a top range card, unless the price will come down with the july price drops....uhm looking for 22" monitor and i dont want to spend like £50 on a gaming mouse so nothing special in those lines are needed. Also not sure if i would do extreme overclocking, just sort of 2.8ghz upto 3.0ghz, if at all.

well it would be uni work, rather than not proffesional. And being uni I dont really want the sort of "well cause you have the money avialable you may as well go all out and get x, y and z"

Prices, new things coming out etc will make todays spec of £1000 much different than in september when you plan to buy, its probably better getting ideas nearer the time.

Yeh i agree. Core 2 Duo Pricesss are going to fall this month / Year

Your better waiting for the newer C2D Chips and motherboards...

cheers, well it would be in the 1st week or so. I thought most of the core2duos were out by now. Anybody got anylinks to the expected ones?
What about graphics cards aswell, is it just new models in the current range or are there any major ones? Oly thing i do know is the July price cuts and barcelona.

The only DX10 cards worth considering are the 8800s atm. but since you are not gaming that often the 8600GTs overclock very well.
