Hi all,

Im looking at building a mini ITX PC that will used as a portable LAN console as well as a capable VR PC.

Minimum recommended specs for VR right now are an Intel i5 with atleast a 970 or 390.

My list that ive gathered is mainly from reading from online builds but would really like some expert advice before I splash my cash.

I'm a little bit lost for any other components like case fans and power cables for the modular power supply.

I'm a little concerned about Heat and throttling!

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My limit for the build is £1100 and would rather spend less if possible without hindering performance

I've done several builds now in the RVZ01 / 02 and the ML07 and derivatives.
They do work much better in a vertical orientation than laying them horizontal, still not quiet by any means.

I'd also put off buying any 28nm gfx cards now unless you really have to.
We're getting closer all the time to 16nm / 14nm cards, if I hadn't bought my 980ti on release I'd hold out for 16 / 14nm.

Legion what case did you find best overall? Either of these cases are fine for my build, I would wait for 16/14nm but I don't think we are going to see high end cards until late next year as I think AMD and Nvidia will milk the market for profit and I am happy with the performance right now of the high end cards now even with the amount of heat they produce.

Also I haven't had a modular PSU before and im not 100% sure I will have all the cables supplied with the PSU?

Ive also added 3 120mm fans just incase I can fit them in.

Check my sig below. I overclock my cpu a bit to 4.5 and a quiet sp120 on a H60 keeps cpu temps below 80 in normal use.

I run my 970 with quite an aggressive fan profile as it stops the motherboard getting too hot but to be honest I've run my motherboard when the temp sensor says 60 and I'd ridk it if I couldn't bear extra noise. Bear in mind mine is in a tight tv stand so that doesn't help. I tried a hp fan but the noise was horrific and I do like near silence when not gaming.

I have th z97 version of your board and it has a weird problem resuming from sleep and not firing up the cpu fan at the correct speed. Great otherwise so I don't put it to sleep.

The sg05 is a great case imo...obviously it has limitations but the psu is great. I realise you'll want more than 450w.

Def max your ram out to 16gb, it will save messing around in the future and some games have 8gb min I think now.
