Hi
I am aiming for a macbook pro at a cost of ~£1000 although can stretch to £1300. I hear great things about m1 so that's all i am particular about. I'd also be docked a lot of the time so keyboard / touchpad doesn't bother me too much.
What am I best getting? I could either get the lower spec one from apple directly, or what should i specifically be looking out for on 2nd hand markets (i.e. is the 2021 version that much better than 2020. What's these new "m1 pro" chips all about? etc) ?

Any advice much appreciated

The 14" MBP is miles better than the 13". It's faster (much more powerful CPU/GPU with M1 Pro) and probably the best quality screen on any laptop. You may be able to get a used/refurbished one if you stretch to £1400 or if you're willing to wait for a good deal.

The 14” base model is really good but quite a bit over your budget at £1700 direct from Apple refurbished.

The 13” is within budget but only 8GB RAM. So it depends on what you plan to use it for.
