Alreet the missus has let me upgrade ye olde beast and even given me 1000 of her majesties pounds to spend my current specs are i7 920 @ 4.2 ghz, 8gb patriot ram, 2 x Asus hd5850 in crossfire and a samsung spinpoint f1.

I know first thing I need to get is a ssd or 2 as I would need 1 for my windows install and 1 for my HUGE steam folder next I'm thinking of a new graphics card or 2 maybe a gtx 680 or gtx 670 ? although that would take up most of my budget. My other option I'm considering is getting a x79 overclocked bundle and keeping the GPU's I have, Then waiting a few months to see where things head GPU wise what do you guys think ? any other suggestions ?.

My main use for the pc is gaming but I also edit video and photos on it.

I would go for a full on upgrade.

Also selling your i7 920 and other bits and bobs will add more to the budget, i assume.

Here's what i'd do with the first grand:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Palit GeForce GTX 670 Jetstream 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £309.95
1 x Intel Core i7-3820 3.60GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor - Retail £227.99
1 x Intel 330 Series 240GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive - Retail (SSDSC2CT240A3K5) £161.99
1 x MSI X79A-GD45 (8D) Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 Motherboard £153.98
1 x Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CML16GX3M2A1600C10) £99.95
1 x Phanteks PH-TC14PE CPU Cooler - Blue (Socket LGA 2011/1155/1156/1366/775/AMD AM2/2+/AM3) £66.98
Total : £1,032.84 (includes shipping : £10.00).

Then, add other bits such as another GPU, Another SSD (non-raid) or bigger PSU, if you need it.

I got a coolermaster silent power pro 700 psu a year ago so I'm ok for a psu atm I think I will go for a 670 but make some compromises with other components so I can upgrade others as I would prefer a k edition cpu.

IMO....

There is nothing wrong with your set up now!..
