Does the LG L227WT 22 really have a 10000:1 ratio? If so is it any good? I have seen conflicting specs for this monitor. *oi no competitors!* have it as 10000:1 in the title, but in the specs it says 5000:1. Anyone know anything, or anyone seen it?

Don't go by quoted contrast ratio, they are ridiculously inflated.

In reality no screen really delivers more than 600:1

I'd go by feedback, and a selection of reviews, NOT the specs.

yeah I get what you are saying, but it does make a difference. The dynamic ratio does help with movies and games etc doesnt it? If I can rephrase it anyway, is the monitor any good? I am looking for a monitor that produces deep blacks as I get annoyed by the glowing blacks most lcd's have.

yeah its known that manufacturers lie about about contrast ratios. and even if they dont they lie about the way they test it.

one method of testing is unrealistic and gives stupidly high contrast ratios (some manufacturers choose this one) but this cannot reproduce a contrast ratio with any actual useful content displaying.

the other method provides lower contrast ratio levels but test's the actual ratio when displaying something useful on the screen

We've got the Samsung 37R87 LCDTV (8000:1) which has dynamic contrast and we have to turn it off, it ruins dark scenes by bringing barely visible low colours out to the point where they are clearly visible. Dynamic contrast + compressed medium + dark scene = really nasty.

Even with it turned off though the black depth is still surprisingly good for an LCD. I dunno maybe with DC off it still dims the backlight but doesn't amplify the signal. It certainly has a better black depth than the other 1600:1 LCDTV we have, so there's clearly more going on than just plain lying.

LG were originally going to release the L227WT with 5000:1 DRC I believe, but then changed it to 10,000:1 (certainly in some countries), as per the report heree. As said above, it's only a dynamic contrast ratio so figure is somewhat exagerated. Many people hate the feature too, so don't go relying on it as a massively important spec if you can help it

careful when you say that lol. i know you are talking about monitors, but there are LCD screen that can easily manage that:)

a fair few monitors can do more than that too, esp VA based matrices. When i tested the Samsung 971P that offered a STATIC contrast ratio of 1692:1!! not too bad at all....
