i nearly purchased a gtx 650 earlier, but after spending so much on things lately I decided not to spend a further £28 for it and so I thought I would try google it vs the 1030 and not much results.

However what I did find seemed to favour the 1030 and I don’t think just becuse it’s newer, so is the 1030 actually a much better gpu then?, I only want to try medium settings in certain games.

If you end up getting a 1030 be aware there is a DDR4 version which has crippled memory bandwidth and is slower than the GDDR5 version, sometimes by a huge margin.

I think I've seen this showing the DDR4 version of the 1030 being only around 45% of the GDDR5 1030's performance.

If anyone unfortunate enough to fall for the bait and switch trap, then they are screwed.

Avoid the DDR4 1030 like plague!!

Was away on holiday since I posted this, so thank you for the replies.

I know the 650 was a mid-range cars in its day, but I didn’t think a new, but low range multimedia card would better it, so it’s good to know the confirmations are correct, so I guess 1030 ha and thanks for the heads up on the vram, I haven’t been looking yet, but good to know there is a pretty terrible version to watch for.

A 1030 (£79.99 gddr5) isn't worth £52 more than that £28 gtx650 though...

£28 would likely get you a 7770 that's faster in the above chart, and for £40-£50 there are lots of choices that are much faster than either (7850/7870/7950/260x/270x/gtx660/gtx670)

You can get the 2gb HD 7850 for like £35 used on online auction site. I have one in my current system and it's about 50% better than a 1030. There's plenty up for sale and I'll be throwing mine up in a few days as well. If you can find a HD 7870 for near that price than pick that up instead.
