I've come into ownership of a 1050Ti, got the box, manual, cd etc.

Tried to fire up the pc to test it before flogging and it keeps going BSOD as soon as it's enabled in device manager, it shows as a 1050ti in there. Tried the usual troubleshooting but nothing works.

Now for the interesting part, gpu-z is showing everything is fine on the card and that it is as a 1050ti but with 6gb of gram.

I'm just seeking some wisdom on what could be going on with the vram, thanks

I think it looks like someone has been tinkering with the bios and you'll have to flash it back to a stock one.

It didn't come from a miner did it?

No way to know for sure if they were but I guess it's possible.

I'll try and find the original bios for it and flash it. I'll report back later.

On the money. Defo isn't a 1050ti, almost certain it is a 1060 6gb that's been incorrectly flashed.

TMUs/ROPS, core/mem clocks and shader counts all point in that direction.

Try booting to something like Linux Mint from a USB, and see what it is detected as.

Had the card apart, it's definitely a 1050ti PCB and has 4 memory chips which match what they should be.

I'll try the Linux mint idea tonight.

I didn't but I can take it apart in a spare 2 mins later on, but I verified the etched number under the backing plate and it checks out.

If it's a scam card it's gotten very sophisticated recently.

Leaning towards its been badly flashed and now it's having a major and incurable identify crisis.

A quick update; I have the card showing as what it really is in gpu-z now and it's running as a secondary to the mobo onboard VGA.

Got to try it running as the video output now so fingers crossed.

Edit, scratch that, got a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION after using it for 5 mins

Extra edit, it's displaying an image whilst the main output is set to the onboard graphics. Seems flakey when set as the main output on the mobo bios.

It's behaving since, it's ran for 10 mins as a second display no bother, rebooted it and it's currently being set as the main display via windows and trying to find a game to give it a bit of stress with.

No lines, no artefacts and no crashes for a while now. Just monitoring temps now to see if that is causing the problem.

I bought it as a spare and repairs as a project to see if I could make a broken thing work, if it keeps

Edit: random crash after 20 mins, typically, at the moment I had gone to get a drink

running great, if not I can sell it on as broken to make the money back (explicitly stated of course).

Can you recommend software to test the various aspects of a card other than 3D mark?

I've officially given up, couldn't resurrect it this morning, last night was obviously a bit of luck.

If it doesn't shift at least I can try out some of those tricks for myself like Ballistix

Thanks for the help all round.

I actually tried the 128 bit flash and it bricked, reverted it using my pentium iGPU but now my Time Spy scores have tanked buy about 200 points damn.

I found out that the 512 core 550's GPU actually has 640 cores, but theres no 640 core 64 bit ram bios to try, only for 128 bit.

There was a RX 550 640 sp model released by Sapphire that actually used the 1024 core chip, and a bunch of people that got one for mining were able to flash it to 896 or full 1024 RX 560 bioses.

But I've never seen that model available anywhere. Its just fun to get a cheapo card and push it to destructive levels.

Last time I tried something like this was with a 220mx in the early 2000's with a crudely attached case fan to it's plastic heatsink. It ran some good numbers for 2 minutes before locking up, that was just boosting the clock cycles etc rather than flashing.
