1055t vs i5 3450?

The i5 will be better for gaming, although not by very much except in heavily CPU limited games. For rendering videos I don't know. The extra performance of the intel chip may well be outweighed by the extra two cores in the AMD one.

How much better in gaming the i5 is depends on the GPU set up.
But an i5 is the better game.
1055T will win out in rendering, unless it utilises AVX, that could make the i5 the better renderer too.

If you're moving from the 1055T, then personally, for both gaming and rendering, I think the FX-8320 will be the safer bet, and about the same price as the i5 as well.

I would like a bit of a performance boost in bf3 and the upcoming crysis ,also wondering if it well help my frame rates whilst recording gameplay

What motherboard do you have now??

Regarding BF3 and Crysis3 they both are very multi-threaded,so an FX8300 series CPU would be OK in those games, although a Core i5 is more consistent in more lightly threaded games.

With video encoding,I would rather have an FX8300 series CPU as the instruction support for video encoding is quite good. Not only does it support AVX but both FMA3 and FMA4,and IB does not support the latter two. Haswell will support FMA3.

Having said that the FX8300 series is not cheap on OcUK.

Well here's the situation my girlfriend has a 3450 i5 with a z77 board and she's willing to trade with me(and i add a little cash as the parts are new)as she isn't bothered and doesn't game much, I'm just wondering wether i will benefit!

As for my current board it's an old am3 asus m4a785td-v evo

I would probably take the Core i5. The game performance will be better, although I think video encoding performance won't be much different IMHO,unless AVX is used.

£100 is not much TBH if they are new.

Edit!!

Actually,I just realised your Phenom II X6 is overclocked,so it probably will still be better for video encoding(unless AVX is used),and worse overall for gaming.

I think Crysis 3 SP might not show a massive improvement though,BF3 MP might shown a reasonable improvement though.

At £100 it's not a straightforward decision. I don't think the small increase in gaming would be worth it especially weighed against the X6's encoding chops. One way to do it would be to sling your graphics card in her machine and have a play for a bit. That should let you know if the performance increase will be noticeable.

basically the i5 will be same at encoding and in games it depends if cpu dependent . in cpu dependent games the fps can be upto double
