Hi there.

I was talking to my mate last night and he thinks the 106 GTi is faster than the VTS. He also thinks they do a 1.8 106 GTi - haha, I think not.

Anyway, he wasn't having any of it. I tried to tell him that the 106 has the same engine as the Saxo. Please tell me i'm right.

Am I right in sayings its a TU5J2 or something like that? What are the 0-60 times?

Bit of pub talk I know but he thinks he knows everything. Oh yeah and he has a "chip" on his 106 which is a resistor he got from eBay and he thinks his car is faster lol but it sounds like a grandfather clock on speed when it's ticking over.

According to Parkers, the 1.6 GTi (8.4s) is quicker than a VTR (9.1s) to 60, but definately slower than a VTS (7.5s) to 60, so you're right there.

Doesn't look as though a 1.8 was ever made for the 106. I've no idea wether or not the engines are the same, but they're both 1587cc, again according to parkers, which may or may not be accurate.

They are identical in performance using the same 1.6 16v TU engine and close ratio gearbox. The differences in performance figures come from how peugeot test their cars with a full load.

The 106 GTI handles slightly better due to a thicker rear anti roll bar and is around 10mm lower as standard.

The other difference is that the VTS has an oil cooler wheras the GTI doesn't.

I thought the gearing was slightly different on the VTS giving it a better 0-60 time.

There's certainly nothing in real-time speed differences.

Pretty much bang on, the gti has 14 inch wheels though and the vts 15 inch :)

They are faster than fiesta Si's though ;)

That's bang on the money :)

Could anyone be a darling and tell me the exact engine code for the 106.

I know it's a TU5 something or other.

Cheers.

Cheers mate :)

"TU5 JP4 S" 125 PS (123 hp/91 kW) it is then, even though it has 128bhp according to Parkers but I guess that someones made a mistake somewhere.

Ta

thats the engine :)
and parkers made a mistake, a lot of peopel think the vts/106gti has 130bhp in reality most stock come out nearer 120.
its liek 172's most of them are not making 172ps from stock either

The 130bhp came about from later models being dyno'd against older GTi's and they had about 10bhp more than the earlier models... not all though.

So, its just speculation/rumour etc etc etc but may be true... you'll never know. :p
