Which GPU should I buy to upgrade my GTX970, finding it hard to decide..

with the 1060 6GB being about £250 and the 1070 being £400+ its quite a jump so what do I get performance wise with this over the 1060.

Now I have been having PSU issues now so need to resolve that first, I have noticed the 1060 uses a single 6 pin and the 1070 has an 8 pin, my 970 uses 2x6pin connector's so are both of these cards less power as well as more performance and less strain on the PSU?

A big part of the decision will rely on the resolution of your monitor. 1060 is more suited to 1080p and the 1070 is well suited to 1440p. Although the 1060 is not terrible at 1440p while the 1070 isn't overkill for 1080p imo.

Power should not be vastly different from your 970, but the 1060 is very efficient indeed.

1060 is around 980? So 5% faster than your oc 970. Imo not even worth considering.

1070 is a good upgrade, but with new gtx coming in july [rumored]. then i'm not sure its worth getting at this point unless you ready to lose ~100 by selling and getting new gtx in july.
