1060 OR RX 480

I would get a 480. Both are equal in performance but the 480 keeps getting stronger as time goes by. It has more Vram and is a bether card for dx12 which will see more use as time goes on.

For GTAV the Nvidia cards perform better so if most of your gaming time is going to be spent playing GTAV go for an Nvidia card, But, I agree with TRD the better overall package is the 480. I'd personally go 480 but I tend to chop and change games all the time so I'm after an all rounder and although there's practically nothing in it I do think the 480 will fare better over time, Plus the change in how they compare to each other since the 1060 & 480 cards released supports that.

I play GTA v on a 1060 on 1080p. I like to keep my minimums at 60fps so my average is between 70-90. To do this the 1060 can't max out every setting for example grass on ultra even brings my 1080 to its knees!

DX12 is over rated a joke in its current implementation and if you only play 99% of games out there then it's easy to get by on dx11 ;)

That grass in GTAV has brought many a gpu to its knees:)

100% go for the RX480.

Could go for a cheap 4GB RX480 and unlock the extra 4GB memory to save a few bucks. Some sub £190 deals atm. Or just buy a good deal on custom cooled RX 480 8GB. The MSI is a beauty.

According to this review with newer drivers,it does not look like the GTX1060 has an advantage anymore:

Plus the ReLive drivers add a few percent to the framerates too. I would probably look at which card has the better deal on the day TBH and remember the RX480 has the Civ6 promo currently.

OTH,I have seen pretty good deals for the GTX1060 too.

If you ONLY plan to play GTA, get the 1060. If you plan to play other games also get the RX480

Out of interest does the RX480 has some game breaking bugs with the game??

Because looking at some of the newer reviews performance seems fine, and ReLive seems to have less DX11 overhead too.

If I was only really playing GTA V then i would only buy the 1060, It's a lot Faster than the 480 in that game, if you plan on playing many other games then the 480 would be a smarter buy as long as you accept the fact that GTA V will be up to 10 - 15 fps slower than the 1060 as of right now.

Who knows what will be better in a years time.

No but if AMD can pull back a 12% difference in performance in 6 months then you have to ask yourself what is going to happen in the next 6 months to a year. As it stands in dx11 performance is now equal and in dx12 the 480 is faster. The RX480 seems like a smarter buy.

480 is better card really. Even if you dont plan on playing many other games right now there is next to no difference with gta and things can change so id back getting the 480 just in case. May as well reward amd and promote competition when they get it right.

Yep if Nvidia start losing sales to the rx480 it will force there hand to either bring something out that's faster or reduce prices. Either way it's a win for us as Amd will then have to react.
