Hey guys,

I’m considering changing my CPU to a 10850k. Would it be a significant update from the 10600k for gaming?

or is it likely my 2080s the bottleneck? Surely it is the CPU?

If I did go down the route of the 10850k, I’m assuming it is fairly future proofed being a 10 core?

Nothing is future proof, by the time a 10 core cpu is needed for games the 10 core cpu's of today won't be fast enough not to bottleneck the gpus of the future.

The only reason the higher core count cpu's are any faster in games is simply because it's (generally) the best silicone and has higher boost frequencies.

It's possible it might have more of an edge in console games to have more than 6 cores, but without seeing some, it's hard to say.

pretty much a waste of money for games but...

if you can get a good price for one and sell the other it might not cost that much its somthing I might consider in the future

as for being future proof your 10600k will proberly last you 3-4 years before you need to change

rule of thumb is to only swap cpus when you notice a slowdown or performance issues
