1066 or 800

just got a new motherboard and i have to decide between using all of my 8 gig of gskill at ddr800 ot just using 4 gig and getting 1066 which would be best for games. :confused:

EDIT: Misread.

Not many people really need 8GB really. 4GB is more than adequate. You'd be better off getting 4GB of 1066Mhz and doing a bit of overclocking.

should have been more clear i already have the 8 gig but when i changed the board this one only supports 1066 on two of the four memory slots so would you say that 4 gig at 1066 is better than 8 at 800

Going from 8gig at 800MHz to 4gig at 1066MHz will probably show absolutely no difference to performance in games - and even on the desktop you'd be lucky to notice any difference at all. Stick with the 8gig. As an example... I went from some loose timing 533MHz RAM to some top end 1066 stuff clocked at 1152MHz and the performance difference from one extreme to the other was slightly less than 5%.
