I am replacing my watercooled Gigabyte 970 to a flashy new 1070 but cannot decide on which model to get.

I have it narrowed down to the following:

Gigabyte G1 1070
Asus Strix 1070
EVGA FTW 1070

I wont be watercooling it initially so want something quiet at LOAD.

Can anyone recommend one version over the others and reason.

I know that some will disagree considering the Internet hysteria concerning EVGA's 1000 series cards.

But EVGA 1070 FTW. Nice and quiet (even with the latest Vbios) and runs cool. Zero coil whine (at least on my system). Plus 3 year (fully transferable and I think that's unique) warranty.

But to be honest, none of the cards you mention will disappoint.

I know they are all good, just want one that will be quiet enough until i can purchase a waterblock for. Gigabyte was my initial choice but the more i read reviews the ofher spring to mind.

after looking at reviews peoples responses over many forums and youtube videos i went from same card as you to a asus strix version.

gigabyte cards seemed to have a high rate of coilwhine on 1070s and 1080s.especially the mini itx version.

so i avoided them.evga and the whole saga thats just been on didnt leave for much confidence either.

so it came down to zotac and asus strix.

got the strix literally no noise.well built great software.

I have one of these with a Aquacomputer block on it. I have no coil whine and it boosts to 2012mhz out of the box. No warranty stickers on the screws (none anywhere actually) and the backplate fits with my block. I paid £40 less than that though when they were on offer.

I had a EVGA FTW, Sent it back for a full refund from EVGA 2 days ago, Got sick of the coil whine and having to put thermal pads on and the bios updates, I am also looking for another 1070, I am looking at the Gigabyte Xtreme 1070, But out of those you said I would go for the Asus strix.

How about the Zotac Amp Ex. Max temp I have is 69c.
It you turn the fans to 50% it's still quiet and a few degrees lower but it's heavy.

My review

Why buy anything else....

Brought this OC..well the MM. Had a 980TI Classy.
This is sooo much better in my current rig,
Temps 69c max @ 40% fan speed. Turn it up to 50% 60-65% you still cannot hear it. OC it is not worth it for a few frames. Playing GOW4 hitting 160+ @1440P
bigmac121 to see my rig in the forums. Make sure you have support fot for this card as it is BIG.
ALL 1070's clock 2000mhx + This is no different, Colours may not be to your liking but how offen do you look into your case?

Thanks everyone I have put in offer for zotac amp 1070 for £320, but have an offer on a Gigabyte G1 1080 for £465 but that won't be available till January. So I have some time to determine whether the Zotac would be quiet enough or the 1080 with a waterblock.

Update: someone pinched everything including the Zotac, so waiting time now till January.

I have a Zotac Founders ed. Great card, boosts to 1955mhz out of the box, so quiet too compared to any other card I've used for gaming :)

Mine punches out 2100 but scales back to 2000 when it starts heating up.

Not that the 100 difference equates to any real world fps difference.

What is your memory clocked at?

make sure you can get a block for it before you buy it. might end up with a card that they dont plan on releasing a block for.

That's how my search was narrowed down, and the reason the zotac though great wouldn't work in the long term. So here's to my gigabyte g1 1080 in January can't wait.

Forgive my ignorance - how are you getting those prices?

i have the zotac 1070 amp extreme, and the fans hardly come on at all, the odd spin up now and then, even when gaming they are only just going around

I like the look of the Zotacs plus the 5 year warranty is a bonus, If Vega fails to impress me I may grab a 1080 Amp next year, I won't bother paying the extra for the extreme though as from what I've been reading as long as the card has a decent cooler keeping noise and temps down they're pretty much all the same with a minimal lottery variance between them.

Ive got an msi armor, its pretty much silent, the fan hardly ever comes on actually, im on my second one though, first one had samsung memory, but was a unstable in bf1 unless I downclocked its ram, on second one now, and it has micron ram was also unstable at first, but seems ok now with the latest bios
