Noob question but I think I'm going to try my pc on tv for abit just cause something different.

Last time I checked hdr on Windows was a mess, is this due to the gpu or Windows itself?

My TV is a Samsung q6f.

I know the 1070 will not manage 4k comfortably but I accept that anyway

HDR on PC is a total mess :( its cheaper & less hassle to just buy an Xbox 1X!! that is what I did in the end ;)

1920x1080 HDR You need a HDMI 1.4 or newer Display & HDMI Cable
4K HDR You need a HDMI 2.0 or newer Display & HDMI Cable capable of 18Gbps bandwidth to pass the HDR signal.

For 4K protected content on PC you also need on Windows 10 a Playready 3.0 DRM spec PC. This means it must contain both Intel SGX & an Intel IGPU so the ONLY AMD systems which will work must also have an Intel GPU on the motherboard & even then it will not play an 4K HDR Protected content unless its an all Intel system

" Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (for HDR or using discrete graphics)
  • Latest unspecified Windows Updates
  • Microsoft Edge or Windows 10 Netflix application
  • Netflix plan that supports 4K and HDR streaming
  • High or Automatic Streaming Quality in Netflix Account Playback Settings
  • Minimum internet connection speed of 25 Mbps
  • 4K display with HDCP 2.2 capability
  • HDCP 2.2 certified cable with 4K capable digital interface
  • HDCP 2.2 capable and 4K capable digital interface port on motherboard video-out or discrete GPU
  • Supported discrete or integrated GPU (PlayReady 3.0, HDCP 2.2 output)
  • Appropriate graphics driver "

I found out the hard way HDR does not even work on PC games unless you have the required Intel SGX present & enabled. On many PC HDR games it says its enabled but its not actually working at all just a dithered fake HDR image which looks odd, washed out & just plain weird. MS & Intel are very secretive about this as well to avoid the bad PR from locking AMD out of HDR on PC for as long as possible which is just crazy considering they sell the best CPU's now by far.

When I bought an X1X & looked at Resident Evil 7 again with proper HDR the difference between the PC fake HDR vs X1X & proper HDR was just
