So I missed this when looking at cards, but here is a mini 1070 at £398 - im pleased that prices seem to finally be coming down with OcUK leading the way -

Question - How much difference does the cooling make? I have a full sized case, but weighing up the options is it worth spending another 20 quid on the better cooling if I use VR? To be honest im also thinking it would be worth waiting for the 1080 to drop a little...

1070 performance @ £400 in 2018 is still a highly inflated supply/demand issue imho, it also represents the bare minimum for PC VR in real terms.

Wait is my advice, look at the 2nd hand market if you can't wait.

That is a very nice looking card, not exactly mini either. I think the fans will spin a bit more to keep it cool at stock, so oc'ing potential is slightly reduced. I hear from many people that their experience in VR with a 1070 is not noticeably different from a 1080 - that was a Rift mind.

The cooler is smaller, so either temperatures will be higher, clocks will be slower or noise will be higher.

To me, £400 for a 1070 2 years after release doesn't represent good value but then I have a perfectly fine watercooled 980ti so my idea of value on hardware when I don't need it might be different.

I bought one of these about 8 months ago for my girlfriend. I have the 1070 Ti version. Both great cards. The Ti overclocks nicely (we haven't tried the non-Ti), they aren't really noisy, love them.

BUT - the prices are still a bit crazy. I bought the 1070 Mini for around 330-350, and the Ti at about £420 IIRC.

there still too dear should be £300-350. 1070ti are £420 or were. so upto you.zotac are a decent brand.good warranty.

Yeah as others have said £400+ for a 1070 is still silly price. Should be £300 at best and no more. I won't buy any GPU right now. Look at second hand market.

Scared to think what 11 series cards are going to cost:eek: You think there high now just wait come new series:(

These are noiser than normal full size 1070s, but other than that do the job, also the noise is restricted to load (still quiet as when not). If you have a well vented case you shouldn't have an issue with it underclocking under extended load.

Some encountered fans dying on them, but they have a 5 year warranty so wouldn't worry about that, also these were 24 / 7 miners.

Would echo others above though, I believe the crazy days of crypto are done, so cards should gradually come back to earth plus new cards coming, however if you do not have a card, then I would buy mainly as not gaming is not an option for my sanity. As a side note I wouldn't buy second hand card, if it dies you have no way to get it fixed (warranties are not transferable except for EVGA). Also what resoultion you planning to game at? 1070 is great at 1080p, can do 1440p, but cannot do ultra widescreen 1440p or 4k, and I wouldn't do VR on it.

I do agree with the sentiment that people should hold off buying GPUs at these prices. As long as they still sell, they will keep these new 'accepted' prices. Not what you want to hear if you have a game in mind you really want to play soon, but if you can wait, see what happens with the 11 series launch. We never know, there may be a reasonably priced entry next to the higher end ones. Should at least see a small discount on the 10 series a just before and after launch too which may be a £50 saving for waiting 6 months - if that's worth the wait.

All speculation based on last time around!

I got the Zotac 1070 mini in September last year (thank god - was only £299 back then!)

Performs well, cooler is nice and quiet, no complaints from me, seems to bench very close to the full size 1070's - I think the PCB is smaller than the normal 1070's it's not just the cooler that's smaller
