Hi all

I am looking for a new GPU, but am not in any rush, should I buy now or hold off 2 or 3 months.

I am asking as the 1070 got my attention but I remember there was some fuss about the "founders editions" costing more than the board partner versions. Seeing the board partner versions are available, are the prices as they should be or are they still inflated on the back of this "founders edition" nonsense?

Cheers

Kel

Nvidia basically changed the boards name from "reference card" to "Founders edition" and tacked on a $100 premium, much to the chagrin of people who seen right through their bs. Its no different to any of the recent reference designs, just more costly for no good reason.

Sorry I wasn't clear, I get what they are doing and that initially they were more expensive, I was wondering if the board partners were following the lead of the initial expensive batch and keeping them expensive, or if they have come back down to the "normal" price.

Thanks for replying.

Depends on the brand really, ASSus always overprice their cards whereas other companies don't tack on quite as much, the gainwards and zotacs seem pretty good for the money.

So not expecting any more drop in price any time soon? If not I might as well grab one sooner.

Cheers

If anything prices are bouncing around (which is apparently blamed on everything from brexit to the price of chips) might be better to wait for a this week only offer or just snag one now.

Like the 970, the 1070 is unlikely to drop in price much. The next probable card from Nvidia will be a 1080ti and that will compete with the 1080 because for some reason some people think a 1080 is a high end card. Both the 1080 and 1070 are mid range cards, but it's only the 1070 that gets the mid range price tag.

The price drop you are anticipating will happen to the 1080 when the ti version is released. The 1070 won't drop much as it has no competition.

Personally, I think the 1080 only exists to drive 1070 sales.

the cards will drop because despite what sales people will tell you the 1080s and 1070s are selling anywhere near aswell as the 970s and 980s did.

how many threads have you seen about the pricing already ?

many want new cards but are holding off.

when reasonable pricing resumes then they will start to sell properly.

1070s are still 50-80 £ to much.1080s are still atleast a £100 too much.

the recent sales of the 980 ti even made this more clearer.

I remember holding off buying a 1080 like many other people did when they first got released only to watch the prices go up and up and up a few weeks later.......:(
