This has blown me away, but I've managed to overclock my recently acquired founders edition EVGA 1080 from stock to 2138Mhz GPU and 5556Mhz on the mem. Comparing it to others, this seems outrageously high??

That's a 250 and 550 offset respectively

I've no done much real life testing, but it seems pretty damn stable. I'm getting a good 10fps increases in games.

Running on water, card gets to about 50 degrees.

I'm back off to play elite in VR at 2.0 SS!!

Why is that difficult to get an FE with that clock?

Because it looks pretty normal to me.

My Zotac AMP Extreme 1080 holds 2126MHz with no issues, ran 45 minutes of Heaven without artifacting or crashing. I guess I got very lucky :D

Every review I've seen quotes around the 2ghz value. I was just blown away when I'm getting 100Mhz higher. But these are more mature chips so maybe it's more common now.

I just had to share the goodness with the world lol!

Ah it's not just me and no longer feel alone!

These cards overclock incredibly well..I'm quite shocked!

Mine hits 2100 and will stay there subject to thermals. There's more in there too. 2100 is not unusuL at all from what I've seen on the 1080's and seems an easily achievable figure on 1060 cards which I've also overclocked.

Yep they do :D
The reference cooler is the biggest culprit that holds those cards back.

I was like "this fellow is not familiar with the thermal throttling feature", then I read "water"

The past week I had the MSI with air, and still was overclocking nicely, never hitting the temp limit.

My main issue it hits the voltage limit!! Not the Temp limit, neither the Power Limit. -_-

Yes! I noticed that too chap. Thermal is nothing to me, but watching the voltage on gpuz during benching and the voltage was frequently maxing out. Overvolting makes no difference (power @120% but 0 "over voltage" if that makes sense)

Max volts are around 1.050 which is why I was surprised as the strix with the extra power stonewalls at 1.25 and gets the same end result as me

FE cards seem to be the best at the minute overclock wise. One of mine does 2139mhz the other just over 2.1ghz.

Both run all day long at 2101mhz in SLI.

Bit odd but one of mine sees 1.06v (2139mhz) the other 1.043v (2101mhz) I'd expect them the other way around to be honest.

Have you ran TW3 for 30mins? Did it stay at the clocks in your OP? and/or not crash.

TBF your clocks aren't that much higher than the 1080 average, but yeah, sounds like a good card either way. Enjoy.

1.093v is my limit -_-

I don't have the witcher, (had to Google that!)... Several runs of 3DMark.. God I'm sick of that video... And a few other tests. Far cry 4 seems happy as well as a few other

I've played a good 2 hours in elite in VR with no issues (ultra settings with 2.0ss I might add) doing various things.. This game was VERY sensitive to overclocking my old 980s so I'm very impressed.

From other peeps feedback, this type of overclock seems pretty common. Happy days!

shame cards are limited to 1.09v some need some more juice and then you would be hitting 2.2 to 2.3 with the best ones.

Less potential points of failure on a smaller chip, innit. The 960 usually breezed well past 1500MHz with ease, whereas that was an above average overclock for the bigger Maxwell chips.
