hi

am presently using a 10 year old Hazro 24" IPS monitor running at 1920x1200 @ 60hz with a 1080 GTX ti and am looking to upgrade to something better for gaming i.e. 144 hz but am concerned that with newer games my 1080 will struggle a bit with high settings with 1440p.

Should I stick to 1080p and maybe get a 27" IPS 144 hz monitor or do people believe the 1080 ti can handle 1440p at high settings with new games?

Many thanks for help.

I did'nt know there were two 1440p's until you said so thank you.

I know my 1080 gets a bit warm and fps slow down on games like BF5 and read a few peoples' 1080 struggling at higher resolutions. Is there much difference between 1080 and 1440? Sorry for such a possibly naive' question.

1080 v 1080ti is quite a significant difference in gpu horsepower. 1440p requires more grunt to run then 1080p. 1080ti can run both with ease.

Your post isn't clear, do you currently have a 1080ti paired with a 1920*1200 screen? If so, then you shouldn't be seeing FPS slowdowns.

What is the full system spec?

"Hazro 24" IPS monitor running at 1920x1200 @ 60hz with a 1080 GTX ti"

Also running i7 8700 @4.4ghz and 16gb DDR4 but was concerned my 1080 would struggle at 1440p resolution at high settings in modern games.

My gtx 1080 does very well at 3440*1440 the only game that can tax it is FFIV , shadow of the tomb raider, BFV (maxed out) and metro exodus where a 1080TI would be welcome. Those games will run on high however and still look great even to a self proclaimed graphics whore.

So in answer to your question, regardless of what 1440p Res you are running a gtx 1080ti will give great enjoyable performance.

Thanks 3t3p you have calmed my fears so now just have to work out which 1440p monitor to get- thinking
the Acer Nitro VG270UP ?

It's the card (the 1080Ti) I regret not buying now as knew I would move from 2560*1440 to 3440*1440 which is that many more pixels to drive.

Esp as now the rtx series has barely usurped the 1080 Ti.

I really REALLY recommend ultrawide 21:9 3440*1440 with gsync or freesync and IPS. Elevates gaming massively.

I have the Alienware in my signature happy with it but IPS glow a pain in dark games or scenes.
