Hey guys I currently have a 27" 1080p 60Hz monitor and can run everything I play @ Ultra settings.

I have a very good iChill GF GTX 980 4GB HerculeZ x4 Air Boss Ultra which is a top spec 980. It does support up to 4k and has a DisplayPort 1.2

I want some feedback before I go to Godzilla for funds lmao. I intend to stay @ 27" Monitor but was wondering would I see a big difference just upgrading to a 1080p @ 144Hz?? Or should I pay extra for 1440p @ 60Hz?? What would be the better option for FPS gaming? Both would be TN panels with 1ms response.

Would it be worth risking my neck to go 1440p @ 144Hz or would 1440p @ 60Hz be a good enough jump?

I will be buying from OC so once I get the feedback on Res/Hz I will then go shopping on the site with you guys helping ;)

As always thanx in advance.

I don't see any drawback in getting the 144hz monitor, while your GPU may not reach 100+ fps in every title now you will upgrade your card down the line, and for competitive* fps games you certainly want the ability to get as many frames per second as possible. (plus you can reduce the Hz on a monitor to 60 until your ready to push it higher)

In terms of gaming experience when I went from 1080p to 1440p its the first time I've gone 'wow' at the difference a computer component has made since I got my first sound card 17 odd years ago.

*Just seen you don't need it for this, the general thought still remains, if you have the cash there is no real draw back in going 144hz

+1 for going to 1440 ... I have recently gone to 1440 from 1080 and as said above the difference is WOW ... I'm didn't go 144hz I have stuck with 60hz but I don't really fps a lot at all.

So the jump from 1080p to 1440p @ 60Hz will make a big enough difference?

My GPU would handle 1440p no problem. In fact I must research to see if it will do 1440p @144Hz at high settings??

High resolution has definitely a 'wow' factor involved. For CS:GO I Use a 1080P 144hz monitor. But for most other games I use 4K@60hz IPS panel. This means dealing with two monitors and a 144hz 1440p can be a good compromise.

depends on preference. I would take 1080p 144hz over 4k at 60hz but thats just me :D.

144hz isnt just for fps games. It makes a really big difference for every game I play with the mouse.

1440p 144hz g-sync is just WOW!, even 85hz makes a noticeable difference over 60. Ive had 4k g-sync 60hz panels but rarely used it due to the 60hz. Sold it in the end.

I would see what frames you get with nvidia dsr 1440p. If your quite low id personally go 1080p 144hz. Unless you want the better resolution then get 1440p 60hz. Or see if you can try both?

And no 1440p 144hz requires a lot of power for high end games, more than 4k at 60hz. A single 980 would not take full advantage. Even both my Ti's can struggle on some games with maximum settings.

I don't understand m8 I'm a bit of a noob lol. Are you saying it only does any good on a 60Hz monitor? How does G-sync actually work and is it worth the extra pennies?

I you can afford it then do get a monitor with G-sync because its adds to the overall smoothness of the games and also stops screen tearing i dont think i could go back to a non G-sync monitor again.:)

Up to 24" then 1080p is fine.
27" really needs a step up to 1440p

You'll probably have to knock down from ultra to very high in some effects but this isn't a bad thing completely as you have more pixels anyway so the "lack" of AA effects won't hit you as much as your image will be much smoother.

The Dell G-Sync is a good monitor and would probably be a very worthy spend.

1440p 144hz is the way forward, and do not buy any monitor without adaptive sync, so GSync for your GPU.

A single 980 won't get you 144fps with ultra settings on all games, but you will find all games playable and thanks to GSync it will still look good.

You might want to consider a 2nd 980 down the line.

I am perfectly happy playing games that don't do SLI, I generally get around the 60fps mark, but SLI support tends to make games 100fps+ and pretty.
