Hey all,

Just invested in the Samsung LE32B551A a true 1080p TV, now it looks great, but I have one question. Is it normal to see square jaggies? For example when playing the L4D2 demo the zombies have square jaggies around them, as do the edges of surfaces, and shadows look like a mass of squares...

It is the same with shadows on Modern Warfare 2, however mostly alright, having said that the video that plays if you are idle on the main menu looks very distorted and full of squares, but the intro video is great.

I would also note that the streaming videos from the dashboard also look very distored and full of squares...

Been as I have not had a HD TV before I am unsure if this is normal.

Thanks!

Depends how your seeing them as in if your going right up close i tend to notice them then but if im just playing and not really looking at stuff so to speak all seems clear. Just fiddle with your settings.

Also i had to tweak my sammy tv settings abit which improved it allot. thou was ages go!

Not sure what settings there are on your TV, but I assume they're similar to my Samsung.

Make sure the Sharpness is at 0 and the screen size is Just Scan :)

im thinking its the sharpness too :) it might look a bit soft after you set it to 0 but having it any higher is just producing a artifical sharpness, you might notice a white outline around vibrant colours when the sharpness is on and it shouldnt be there

What cable are you using?

I've always found I had jaggies with a HDMI cable regardless of how my TVs settings are. With a VGA cable, the picture is a bit softer and looks far better because of it.

you could try taking a look over at AVforums for some calibrated settings for your sammy, i have the LE-A656 and tried a good few configs before settling for the one i currently use.

The boxes state what they game will upscale to. ;)

Streeteh is right.

MW2 is natively 600p, a massive 24 pixels higher than standard def. :(

it feels like this generation of consoles wasnt actually ready to go into hd yet, games these days all seem to have a sub 720p resolution or framerate problems, i know there are some exceptions but i wish they had waited for the next gen when they could deliver hd resolutions at a solid 60fps

The games that run at less than 720p are fewer in number than those that run at it or better.

Make sure you enable 720p on your console, otherwise games that run at 720p will run at 520i instead :p

I made the mistake of only enabling 1080p at first.

you can only enable 1 option, enabling 1080p will enable all other resolutions too.
