Hi,

I will probably be buying a bigger monitor and a new GPU (possible 1060) but I need a few questions answered:

Based on 1920x1080 gaming.

1) FreeSync v Gsync - Should I be going for one of these based on the GPU I buy or does the feature not bring a big enough investment?

2) 1ms vs 5ms - Is there a big enough difference to pay more for the 1ms?

3) 60-75hz - For my setup would I benefit from pushing to a 75hz?

Just so I know what I should be getting as a minimum requirement.

1) I would look at the combined cost of the gpu and monitor but with the current pricing you are more likely to end up with a nvidia card as Radeon is still overpriced. However if you end up finding a deal on a Radeon GPU, and Gsync/Freesync is important to you, there will be upwards of 200 dollars to save on a freesync monitor.

2) There are no gaming monitors on the market that really is 1ms. so you can disregard the response time listen on the box as it matters very little. The lowest i remember i've seen averages around 3ms pixel response which is still very good of course, look at TFTCentral.

3) From personal experience there is a good difference between 75hz and 60hz. Some claim there is none but i would argue that you have to be pretty blind not to notice it. However if the choice is between 75hz and no variable refresh rate(Gsync/Freesync) and 60hz with variable refresh rate i would choose the later as long as i know i wont be dipping below 50-55ish fps. Again this is based on my own experience/preferences and i am a bit more picky than most in here it seems.

So I should just be looking to get a monitor with at least 75hz as the priority. Gync or freesync is only worth if the deal is good.

I was looking at these.

Asus 27" VC279H - 1080p 75hz IPS
AOC 31" Q3279VWF - 1440p 75hz freesync

Both around same price but one is IPS and other is WQHD.

What is the better option??

of those 2 i would most likely pick the Q3279VWF. I don't have personal experience with either but i think the 31 will provide more gaming bliss. That said a gtx 1060 is not going to be able to power 1440p very well unless you sacrifice some image settings in your games. If that is fine with you then a 1060 shouldn't have to much trouble, however i would look at a 1070ti if the money could be found for it and it isn't stupidly overpriced.

Thanks.. guess ill just limit myself to a 1080p 75-144hz monitor of around 27" max since I will be sitting right infront of it.

Just wasnt sure if 1080p was becoming redundant and buying a 1440p would be wiser, but if it means getting a 1070ti upwards then I don't think that will be happening.

From sitting about 2ft (desk size) would 27" be too close? I have a 22" just now but I wasnt sure if going to a 24" would be noticeable.

Hi there so basically a response to your question i think 27" would be about the most i would go if your sitting at a Desk i have a 34 inch Ultra-wide but i sit around 1m away so it is perfect also my Monitor has both 144hz and Freesync and when using both i would highly recommend the same if your GPU supports it what i have noticed though is 144hz is a lot better i feel than the Freesync dependent on your budget i think a 27" Monitor with 144hz 1080p would be ideal especially if you play fast paced games hope this helps you decide :)
