Never tried this until today but I can't get it to work properly, I have Nvidia GTX980 & a 120Mhz monitor, when I plug the HDMI cable in it shows as two monitors in Nvidia control panel, if I unplug the VGA cable the screen goes black.
Selecting the 2nd screen shows 1080P & 60Mhz but nothing looks different & when I go back to control panel it's reverted to 1920X1080.
Where am I going wrong?

use a dvi cable

not needed

download a program called Display Driver Uninstaller.

LINK

Once you have it installed. Boot into safe mode.

Uninstall ALL AMD/Nvidia software for a new graphics card installation

Restart, again boot into safe mode.

Download latest drivers for audio, graphics, chipset (basically everything) from the motherboards manufacturers website (NEVER USE WINDOWS UPDATE) and that should sort it

Thanks, I'll maybe try that although I only fitted a new CPU & mobo etc yesterday so all the drivers should be up to date off the Asus disk

Never use the disc that comes with the card. Always use the drivers from the vendors website i.e Nvidia or AMD official sites.

This way you get the latest, most stable versions of the drivers and not some old crummy ones on the disc.

So, what monitor is it and what is the native resolution?

GTX 980 obviously uses HDMI 2.0 so should support most resolutions.

You sure you don't have to manually select the HDMI port in the monitor OSD?
