hi

i'm looking to update my pc to be able to run bf4 with full candy at 1080p

i currently run

amd phenom ii 955be at 3.2
Asus M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3
12gb corsair xms3 ddr3
samsung 830 ssd
Sapphire R9 270X 4096 MB

would like an asus mobo preferably, but open to all ideas.

if you would,nt mind, spec me up and keep budget as low as possible please.

thx

nobby

Low for some isn't neccesarily low for others, much easier to work with if you give us a price to go from. :)

Whats you're current case? Will you require anymore storage? Monitor, peripherals etc?

sry, looking to spend no more than 400 really, case is an antec sonata, storage is fine, monitor peripherals all good. psu is a corsair rm850? i think.

bf4 is playable, but could be better. would like a steady 60fps min. can get this with occasional drops with med settings

I would get this and put your old ddr3 in it but check its compatibility first im 90 percent sure it would work with this board and the gpu can easily run bf4 at ultra at 1080.

Obviously if you want to pay the extra get the 380x that Padraig has posted. Or you could drop the card if you dont want to up it just yet and save for an even better one later down the line. :)

the gigabyte z97x-sli devils canyon i5 4690k bundle is the one I went for a few weeks back.
I cant fault it. I did look at the cheaper Asus bundle but the Gigabyte board had a few extra's that the Asus board doesnt have when you compare them.

like you Ive mainly always used an Asus board and wanted to stay that way.. but honestly the Gigabyte board is a cracking board at the price.

i'm bumping this for further advice please.

having decided that the cpu has to go, i'm stuck between z97/4690k and z170/6600k
i'm leaning toward the skylake option as newer platform rather than one that's on the way out.

been thinking about the asus z170k board and i5 6600k. would be looking to overclock.
i'm utterly lost on what ram to get.
i have a gelid tranquilo cpu cooler which i could re-use (supports socket 1150), but have been thinking about aoi watercooling. its going into an antec sonata case, so 120mm max.

budget ~ 500 now.

ideas, thoughts please?

I would say get the components i posted allready with 16gb of ddr3, ddr4 is not going to make a big difference at all and the new skylake cpus are a marginal increase if you really want skylake just cos you can here you go. b]My basket at Overclockers UK:[/b]

Actually then again skylake non i7 is quite cheaper than i thought go with that then and get a better gpu now or wait till amds new polaris chips come out.

Yes, been thinking that the price difference to get skylake is mostly the need for ddr4. Just want as future proof system as possible. Would also like it as quiet as possible cooling wise for TV/film use. I game with headphones now, so fans ramping up with load is ok. Going to keep the gpu as is initially and see how things run, will go to a s/h r9 290 etc in the future.

When, what are amd polaris?

If you buy a Skylake "K" CPU then you need to add a heatsink as they do not come with one (retail or oem part).
