Hi,

On my screen I have a native resolution of 1680*1050. If I watch a 1920*1080 film, does it autosize to 1680*1050? or does it go down to 1280*720p instead?

in case it goes down to 1680*1050, I dont mind seeing there isnt much difference, but if it goes to 720p, I wont bother with 1080p.

cheers.

I doubt it would downscale to 720p (1280x720). In any case, it shouldnt make any difference as 1080p for such a small (24") screen is overkill and you would find it virtually impossible to distinguish between 1080p and 720p on that small screen.

Hell, I struggle to tell the difference on my 81" projection screen.

I cringe when I see people talking up their 40" 1080p screens.

From my own personal experience, 1080p begins to show its advantage over 720p at around the 55" mark. Anything smaller than that and 720p is almost indistinguishable from 1080p...to my eyes anyway. ;)

depending on the player used itd probably size to around 1680x945 with 2 small black boxes at either side.

yeah this makes more sense seeing how it still has the 16/9 ratio, while my screen has the 16/10 ratio.

@ Suname, I do think the difference ( while playing games) is big.

In my shop they had 2 TVs, one using 720p and the other 1080p, and there was difference between them. though at far distances you cannot see it.

Games are different to movies. Even moving from 1024x768 to 1280x1024 I notice a difference in games. With movies, the screen needs to be much larger.

What was playing (video, movie, game and were they coming from the same feed?) and how big were the screens and were they identical specs?

well, it was a game, not a movie.
both 40inch sony bravia, and both ps3 with the same game.

about the 1080p though, I watched planet earth on 1080p on my screen, and if i make a screen the screen resolution is 1920*1080.
