Any recommendations for a 'best bang for the buck' 1080p Video camera?

It's for a childrens nursery so we can record the productions/graduation etc. and burn them to DVD for the parents.

The external mic would be very useful so we can have it close to pick up the (quiet) singing :p

Not sure on budget, but around £250 would be good, though am flexible.

£250 will get you a Gopro which will do 1080p @ 60FPS and also allow for an external mic to be plugged in.

I have a Gopro hero 3+ which i have started using to record myself when on my motorbike, both video and audio quality is excellent, it's also small and compact which is great.

You can spend far less though, if you don't want the Gopro name.

Gopro's are good but he'll have no control over focus/zoom/exposure etc.

You can pick up a used Canon EOS M with the 18-55mm lens for under £200, it'll do 1080p 24/30fps and as it's a Canon the video quality is very good. Also has proper image stabilisation.

That would leave £50 for external mic which would be plenty.
