1080ti hitting 100% usage and stuttering

Hi,

I've been playing some games recently and sometimes my GPU hits 100% usage causing the game to stutter. Not sure what could be causing this problem, my CPU stays at a normal rnage and the GPU temps aren't very hot.

It happens on almost every game I play unless I play on super low settings.

Using: windows 10
1080ti
i5-3570k overclocked to 4.2ghz

Anyone have any suggestions? I've looked at other forums but nobody seems to have any concrete answers to this.

In games being at 100% gpu is a good thing. It just means you card is being fully utilised. Are you sure it's not the CPU that is hitting 100% at times as this would cause stutter.

I mean my CPU sometimes hits 100% but it never seems to be at the same time as when my GPU does, or even when I'm experiencing the FPS drop/stutter.

Make sure system is clear of malware or minerware ... Malwarebytes would be my first port of call . then check CPU usage at the same time As GPU usage . if 100% CPU util your either bottlenecking the card or you have nastys running somewhere

I'll run a malware checker tonight to see if I can find anything :) I'll let you know what gets picked up...

Which games? As Lokken said 100% usage is usually a good thing as it indicates the CPU isn't bottlenecking but I can't think of many games where a 1080 Ti has insufficient performance to the extent it would cause the symptoms you're experiencing. What resolution are you gaming at?

What's the resolution and FPS when the card is 100%? You might actually be pushing far too many frames which will generally look awful.

1920x1080 and fps will change between games but I guess I could try and see if the games have limiters and see how that performs, I'll give that a try tonight.

But it's most games really, lately, its been Rocket league, Rainbow 6, BF5, Escape from Tarkov, Rome 2. So pretty much everything I play, although it seems to happen more on the graphically intensive ones.

Well, I'm not too sure what happened now, I bought a new monitor today, it has a 144hz refresh rate and I don't seem to be having the problem anymore. I ran Malwarebytes and didn't find anything. Checked for borderless and that was fine as I was running it in fullscreen.

Screen grab from MSI:

As you can see my GPU was hitting 100% but no stutters, so yeah...

CPU Cores:

Not sure if my old monitor refresh rate could cause the stuttering, it was a 75hz monitor.

Anyway thanks for the help. I'll keep this thread updated if it happens again over the next few days.
