Despite me being able to afford and wanting the 2080TI i simply just refuse to pay in the region of £1400 for a card which i recon should be half that price , so i find myself considering buying a 1080ti instead , that is when i got curious and thought i would ask "What price was the 1080TI when it got released" as i do not know this as i was out of PC gaming since the 980ti era.
 
Yeah think FE was 699 and then 800ish for AIB with better cooling.


630 is currently a good price imo as the ti is only 18months old. To came out later.
 
The official FE price was $699 but there was a shortage at launch and GPU mining took off soon after.

The RTX 2080 FE is $799 and nonFE cards are supposed to be $699, but they are the same or above FE price mostly.

UK price for 2080 FE cards is £749. 1080Ti FE was £669 when there was stock.

2080Ti FE is $1199/£1099. NonFE is supposed to be $999 for the cheapest cards.

I think 1080 Ti was paper launched on 10 March 2017 but sales didnt go live until 29 March 2017. I found Gibbo threads on 29 March 2017, 1080 Ti prices was £755-859 for custom cards then over a week later on 10 April the price dropped to £694-709 for blower cards. About a month later on 26 April the price dropped to £649 for some blower Founders Edition cards.

GTX 1080 Ti prices was the same as RTX 2080 but when the mining took off and shortage of 1080 Ti cards saw prices soared to over £1000-£1400.
 
As mentioned above, 1080 Ti's started from £679.99 for FE's.
If OP considering a 1080 Ti they should consider the 2080. 2080 is > 1080 Ti (all round, not just FPS) albeit at a higher price point but is worth considering especially as OP was considering a 20 Ti.
You will eventually be able to get 2080 Ti's for £1099.99, when in stock, forget the current £1400 price tag - just wait it out for now.

I don't know if that will happen...

There loads of things with crazy prices these days and the prices have not dropped but increased even more (memory, motherboards, gaming monitors , gaming mice & keyboards , mobile phones , apple x iphones, etc )
 
I just picked up a EVGA 1080 for £375 OK not a Ti but with 2.5 years warranty left on it I thought that wasn't a bad deal, still I am only in 1440p. Do you really need a 1080Ti?
 
a few 2080s will be £650 this November so get one of those and enjoy the extra 4fps you get compared to a 1080Ti!

The 2080Ti isnt likely to drop in price as there are too many Whales out there.
 
I paid £788.99 for my Strix OC 1080ti when it was newly out (which was pre-mining boom). When considering the FE 1080ti RRP you have to take into account it was a blower design, and the AIB cards represented a much better prospect.

You're wrong.. AIB coolers vs Blower coolers both have there strengths & weakness
AIB coolers works better in large high air flow cases and Blower coolers work better in smaller low air flow cases

The blower design is a far better design then AIB cards for cases like my TF02 and when it installed in smaller cases

A blower type cooler also works far better in my HTPC case which my GTX 1080 FE will be going in when I upgrade, An AIB GPU would just cook
