Hi because my 1080ti strix fans are very loud at anything above 40% i took the side panel off my S340 elite case and set an afterburner curve to 40% at 75c and tried the following:

Played GTAV for 30 mins at max apart from grass at high and all AA and frame scaling off, this was done at 3440x1440 @100hz (Gsync on), 16gb DDR4 vengeance memory, i7700k, nothing OC'd but maxed strix power limit to 120 and temp limit to 90, strix got to 70c and 7700k to 68c, though i had good performance and quiet strix for that 30 mins is it a dumb/unsafe curve to use just so i can make my ears happy?

Am i asking too much of my system and need to lower game settings and up the curve and just accept the noise? Get a high airflow case perhaps?

The 7700k is cooled with a deepcool captain 360x and i have a corsair RM1000 psu

what does "very loud" mean?

Is the sound totally different to what the card did when it was new? If so and if still in warranty, RMA it. Otherwise I'm not sure how hard it is, but it my need a new fan(s)

Would be helpful if you were able to get a video of the card ramping up and making this noise

Ive tried curve settings that ive seen a lot of people use, 60%, 75% @ 75c for example and thats a no no, distractingly loud and has been commented on by people passing by it, need to put headphones on loud and its as loud as its always been, will do a vid later on today, its still well under warranty

I myself owned a 1080ti strix and now 2080ti strix.

The 1080ti I had the fan on auto with the standard profile in the asus software. Under full load the card would get up to 75c and the fans would be around 50%.
I would say while gaming this was in-audible, I could not hear it above my 1000rpm case fans or the game sound

My 2080ti, is overclocked so I've set a custom fan curve - at full load it will run between 50% and 65% fan speed. I had to set it not to go over 65% because as soon as it hits 66% the fans suddenly start a very loud high pitched whine.
I assume that's normal since it's nearly doing 3000rpm at that point so I stick to under 65%. Overall I'd say both card are what I'd classify as quiet - especially under 50% fan speed

You might have a hard time to get them to accept an RMA unless the card is getting to really high temps or the fans are making an unbearable sound even at low rpm that affects the temps. You could always try if this sound is something it didn't do before

You need bigger, slower case fans directing air at the card if you want it to quieten down. I agree they can be quite noisy at 50%+

Also look at an undervolt curve. I managed to get the same boost clocks out of mine with a significant drop in volts and heat. Lots of guides on this around.

I forgot to mention that I have the OC version of the GPU, would that make it run hotter and louder?

I will see what happens when trying auto settings later, a better airflow case and undervolting sound good, the only intake my S340 case has is through the front rads with a plastic panel in front of the fans and them

Well i made vids of the card at 50, 60 and 75% at 75c but the mic on my camera phone is useless and the fans came through as whisper quiet, at 50% hitting 74c in gtaV the cards fans were spinning at 1710rpm, and id say were tolerable, i will learn about undervolting and give that a try and if was to install bigger and slower fans id prob need to get a different case which i dont mind doing, if i was to do so could anyone suggest a good case?

I was drawn to the cooler master SL600M at first because of its 200mm bottom intakes but the design choices they made for other things was just strange like having no access to the psu on off switch and it looks a bit cramped inside to me, thanks for pointing me towards the o11 dynamic, its got the air intake for the gpu im looking for and has lots of build options as well as looking damn good, ill be getting it in white.

Let us know how you get on

I put a Nzxt GPU Bracket & AIO on my 10 series card to resolve the noise issue - may be worth looking at if you're thinking of buying a case as a solution. Silent & temps are low.

Small - NZXT Kraken X42 - only because it came in a kit, I wouldn't bother using one with the LEDs etc to be honest just a load of unnecessary wires. I'd probably get a basic corsair one - I guess the main point here is you don't need one with a large rad or anything to cool the card.

I had a 1080 and it hit 53deg full load after changing to the G12 bracket/AIO and was fully silent.
