1080ti with two DVI-D monitors, no output on second monitor (in windows)

Upgraded from a Titan to a 1080ti, which only has a single DVI-D output. I have two older monitors which are both 1440p but only have a DVI-D input.

The second monitor is currently connected via a DP to DVI-D lead (I'm aware this limits me to 1080p output), I've also tried connecting it via HDMI to DVI-D with the same results. It turns on and takes primary status when booting, but as soon as windows initiates the login screen, it switches back to the main DVI-D to DVI-D display.

If I check the secondary screens status in windows, all of the options are greyed out. If I then try to alter the 'Multiple Display' options on the main screen from 'Show only 1', it gives me the error: "Display settings could not be saved. Please try a different combination of settings." I've tried lowering the res on the main display to various lower resolutions, to no avail.

I've also updated the GPU drivers to the latest version.

If I boot the secondary display on its own, it display fine and then switches off once Windows boots.

It clearly seems like a windows issue. Anyone got any ideas?

What happens if you unplug the DVI monitor and just connect via DP or HDMI?

Also you can get higher resolutions using DP to DVI if you use an active cable o stead of a standard passive one.

I had looked at active cables, but they seemed pretty expensive. It's only used to display Photoshop/Illustrator panels and Spotify, tbh. 1080p is sufficient.

If I unplug the DVI and just connect DP/HDMI, the display runs fine but then shuts off when Windows boots.
