10900k or 5900x - Help!

So I was all but set on a 5900x. I even ordered the mobo today.

But now im having second thoughts. Its purely for gaming @ 1440p, 144hz monitor.
Already have a 3080 Ultra, and an aging 6700k thats bottle necking it.

Price wise, there is nothing in it really.
A lot of people have said Ryzen. In 1080 it looks like its going to be marginally better, in some games, likely worse in others. That means nothing to me, as I wont game in 1080!

I dont think im going to be disappointed in either, but I can get a 10900 and be certain of performance, now. That said, its older tech, Intel havent innovated for a while etc. The Ryzen is more of a risk I guess, you know exactly what you are going to get with the Intel.

What would you do in my position? Both are going to be around £800 for the cpu and mobo.

I literally only looked at parts over the weekend. I dont follow stuff unless im looking to build. So know very little other than forums and youtube opinions.
Its quite confusing, apparently single core is more important for games? At least 1080p. Not sure about for 1440p.

Im a little worried I wont be able to get a 5900x at launch, which means waiting even longer.

I like the confidence. I think as long as its on a par with the 10900k, it seems the obvious choice.

Comments like this make me wonder though....

There is no debate.

There are AMD Fanboy Clowns on Reddit who think they can make any sort of valid justification for AMD in gaming.

People who know what they are doing are on Intel.

The 5900 will NOT beat a properly setup 10600K or 10700K or 10900K, nor be even remotely close. Neither will a 7900XYZ in 2021 or whatever trash AMD releases next year.

YOU won't be able to get a 5900 in a few weeks, because of the bots, scalpers and fanboys.

YOU won't get much higher clocks in the games you play with a 5900. 10-20% improvement, tops.

I'm going to say it one more time.

INTEL 10TH GEN
FAST (LIKE REALLY FAST) RAM
GOOD COOLER (PUSH PULL INTAKE AIO)
OVERCLOCK IT.

i wasn't aware that an overclocked 10900k is 20% faster in games than stock, so I guess AMD still wins. If you can show me a 10900k that's not on LN2 or ice water that runs games 20% faster than stock then I might believe you

The mobo is arriving today, read on here there could be shortages due to new Ryzen etc, and fell for it I can always return or sell it if I do end up going for Intel.

So this wont be another 3080 launch, with no real information before launch? Would be nice to see benchmarks the day before or something, hopefully there isnt an embargo on them.

Like I said, im sure the 5900x will be fine. Certainly an improvement over my 6700k. Just getting those little doubting thoughts.

So Ryzen is a risk a risk because there's no reviews yet? Then why not wait until the reviews are out?

So many people have posted questions like this. Doesn't anybody bother about reviews anymore?

You are right obviously. But after reading Zen 2 was out of stock for months, if Im going to get one, I likely need to be trying to buy as soon as it releases. If it months before I can get one, then im back to 'should I wait for 11th Gen' etc.

Look at the 3080s, who waited for a review of those? Ive still not seen one for the FTW Ultra I bought on release. Sadly with stock and demand the way it is, doesnt seem to be you can buy a day or 2 after. At least with the 3080.
People on here were saying motherboards would dry up due to zen 3 demand etc!

Everyones responses have put my mind at ease. Ill stick with the 5900X.
