I get a score of ~10k on 06. However, I read people scoring +12k with similar spec? Is it simply down to my CPU, I’ve got an E2180 @ 2.8, I’ve read 06 is quite CPU dependant but thought 2.8Mhz (duel core) is fairly decent?

Is there a better test of GPU power that is less dependent on CPU (I appreciate CPU will always play a part, but it seems people on here generally feel it plays a bigger part than it should in 06)

Or could it be the Vista 64 V’s XP…

Well at 2.8Mhz thats a pretty good score , Windows should not be able to load at that speed

On a more serious note, at 2.8Ghz I think that score is about right, make sure in NVCP is using all default such in the graphics settings such as no AA/AF enabled.

Vista tends to be a wee bit slower than XP and your score can be boosted by oc'ing your graphics card. I get about 12K with rig in sig if I oc my card to BFG OC levels.

Around 9K for me and your CPU should be fine, it'll be vista and like Will says, check your NV control panel and set everything to performance mode. Will your CPU not do 3.2Ghz?

Can't get stable past 2.8GHz, think its down to the 4GB, posted in the O\C section and was advised 2.8 with 4GB is better then 3.2 with 2GB so I'll stick with the 4GB.

Cheers

I get about 12k with an 8800gt and e6300 @ 2.8ghz, your 'low' score is partly to do with Vista and partly due to lack of cache on your CPU affecting the benchmark (from what I've seen elsewhere).

Also, assuming your card isn't clocked and mine is it looks about right.

I'm using vista64 with 4gig (4 sticks) have an e2180 @3.2ghz. i have a pre-overclocked 8800gt running at 650/1900/1625 and i get about 11400. So 10,000 sounds about right, maybe abit on the low side

I'd have expected a touch more as i used to get 9331 points with a 7950gx2 and opteron 165 @ 2.88ghz.

Looks to be bottlenecked by the CPU.

^^ correct information. You are CPU bound.

I had my old X2 3800 @ 2.8Ghz and when I pushed to 2.85Ghz my SM2/SM3 scores started to rise at the same overclock on the graphics card (2900Pro). Although Intel is faster clock for clock it seems you still have that limitation.

If you game at a higher resolution than 1280x1024 then I wouldn't worry too much about 3Dmark as the higher the resolution the less the CPU gets worked and the GPU takes over.

@ what res?

It'll be the default 1280x1024. Otherwise he would've stated as we all bench at that res and then check other systems.

There should be a study of this in CPU speed increments to see when the CPU will stop the bottleneck. All those that can't reach that speed should then run at 1440x900 or 1680x1050 (where applicable) to get a proper indication of the GPU with no drawbacks. A bit complicated with the default being 1280x1024 but it's the only way of showing the GPU's full potential.
