I passed my test about 6 months ago and am 21 in another month.

I am going to buy a new car for no more than £10000.

My mum wants me to get a nice new Polo but I am sure there are better options if I get something slightly older or maybe you can recommend a better new car, it would be nice to get something nice and new but you lose so much money.

what do you guys recommend considering I am gonna have to insure this baby and I drive about 2 hours a day so it cannot use loads of petrol.

Thanks for your help.

Focus :).

Small, stylish, well built, good to drive, no negative image, low running costs, good value if you buy nearly new.

You are worried about petrol consumption, so with all due respect, you are hardly minted, so why spend £10,000 on a small car when you've only been driving 6 months?

Why not spend, say, £5000 on something like a Focus 1.6 Zetec? It'll be just as good as any new Polo, but half the price.

He has too much money and little sense ;)

I have to come clean, it is not being purchased by me. I feel like I am being spoiled but my Grandma (awww) is buying me a new car for my 21st.

I have a 10 year old Escort at the moment so it will be a NICE upgrade.

So I don't have to buy it, just insure and pay for fuel and repairs. In which case a new car that isn't going to break and has high MPG is a good idea!

You will all think I am a homo but how about a 207, the Sport Model looks quite nice. :D

Also a Focus looks like a good choice.

I will look at the other options when I am not at work.

Yeh maybe,

As [TW]Fox said I am sure I could pick up a 2nd hand Focus 1.6 for not much more than 5k. It would be fast and have quite low insurance.

Will have to think.

Insurance would be cheap but I'm not so sure about it being fast ;). Depends what you're used to I guess.
