£10K on a daily driver?

Surely for 10 grand the gentleman deserves treating himself to a brand new Kia Cee'd diesel ipod connector hyundai thing with 7 year warranty (conditions apply).

Seriously though, less than 3 years old A3 in Sport trim with navigation and all that sounds right on the money.

Audi A3 of some description, but I couldnt see myself ever buying a 3 door car. 2 or 4 door please.

Well you aren't the one buying the car so does it matter whether you would buy one of not? ;p

OP considered a mk2 leon fr diesel?

So no 3 door hatches are good?

Huh? Who said that?

I have always had three door cars, when I need to put something on the back seat I slide the seat forward. Handy little feature that.

Yeah much easier sliding the seats back than opening a door, and much easier getting things past the front seat that sliding them straight onto the back seat.

But what's the point in having 5doors just incase, maybe once a year, he needs to put something on the back seat?

I just don't see why, given the choice, anyone would choose 3 over 5.

I have done this twice since owning the car, I just chuck things in the boot. Keeps it all out of display.

Perhaps if they had kids/dogs. Put it simply, if the demand for 3 door cars isn't there, manufacturers would not bother to make 3 door versions of their cars.

I think aesthetics comes into the 3 Vs 5 door argument. Unless you really do require the access that a 5 door gives, then generally, the 3 door model will look much nicer than that of a 5 door.

And a 2 door 330Ci looks much better than a 3 door A3.
...but Fox here is comparing oranges and apples. In my opinion, a 2 door 3 series most definitely looks better than a 5 door 3 series, and yes, saloons usually look better than their hatchback versions, and yes and a 3 door A3 looks better than a 5 door A3, but you cant start comparing differing models here, as aesthetics are down to individual tastes.

Theres not many cars that look better as a 5 door when there is a 3 door available, assuming you dont have a family or a dog, why on earth would you need the extra 2 doors, I will always prefer the 3 door car, I like hot-hatch type cars, which always look better as 3 door cars.

For me if you need the doors for a family etc then its either a Saloon or Estate.

That said cars like the R32 and A3 Sportback S line do actually look ok.

Doesn't this mean 3 doors on the whole are naff in your opinion?

If not, perhaps being clearer would avoid confusion :)

You didn't say that though mate, you said "So no 3 door hatches are good?" There's a difference between me not liking three doors, and thinking the entire car is rubbish. The hatch might be good in its entirety, but specifically if a 3 door's only benefit is to "look good" (it doesn't), then you can keep it compared to a 5 door. The clarity was not the issue, it was your (lack of) understanding of my clear point. Perhaps reading more carefully would avoid confusion ;).

As for 3 door looking better than 5 door, I personally don't see it. On 3 door cars, the doors look excessively big imo.

they still both got 2 dr's and a boot :/

so basicly there 3dr? bugger it i dont care :p

Come on its not that hard to work out :p

Anything with an even number of doors has a boot, anything with an odd number has a tailgate. Why they consider the tailgate as a door is beyond me.

I believe that it's possible to regularly get 35mpg out of a 130i, so that would probably be my first port of call. Next up would be a Civic diesel 2.2. Regardless of it's marmite looks, great car.
