Afternoon,

So, I'm interested in a little graphics upgrade. I'm currently using the onboard HD4000 which has suited me fine for the last few weeks. Watching movies and playing the odd (non-intensive) game.

However now I'd like to install Skyrim and stretch the PCs legs a bit. I realise it's not the most demanding of games around, hence why I'm setting a budget of around £150 for a graphics card.

Here's the catch. The Silverstone GD06 will only take a card up to 11". Also, it has to be as quiet as possible. I'm not really interested in overclocking it.

So, with that in mind, what card would you guys recommend? I'd stretch to a suitable 7870. Or the equivalent Nvidia cards (though am I right in thinking these need more power? I only have a 500w PSU).

Ta

David

edit: I should probably add, I'll be playing games on a 32" Sammy TV @ 1080p.

You might want to check with customer services about the length, though I think these should be ok. Both are quiet. If you're after the 7870, then you'll be looking at around £200 for ones with good coolers / quiet, such as HIS, Asus and Gigabyte. Fair enough if you don't want to overclock, but remember, the overclocking headroom the 7000 series (and Nvidia 600 series) offers is a bit special. Takes a moment to do. ;)

The Nvidia 600 series, for once it seems, are less power hungry than AMD's 7000 series. Neither series is juicy though; thus in your case you're looking at a 7850 / 7870 / 660 / 660ti (if you can find one cheap enough).

The Asus is 13/14" and the HIS is 11.7

:( This might be harder than I thought!

the asus is roughly 11.25" from the back of the case to the very end of the plastic shroud. bear in mind that there's about .3-.4" between the plastic and the heatpipes so you could possibly squeeze it

edit: also, I can vouch for it's quietness given its the only thing in my system I can't hear

Thanks for the reply.

Not sure I want to take that chance. I guess what I'll do is get home and have a good measure.

That said, the Gigabyte seems like it'd be a wise choice. It's quietness I'm after, so this might be the way forward.
