Hi there

I am looking for a 1440p IPS gaming monitor. I have an Nvidia 2070S. I have looked at the normal suspects, Asus Swift/Acer Predator G-Sync top end 27 inch models. Both are reported to varying degrees to have bad IPS glow. My questions are as follows:

Is there a monitor that offers high refresh rate and is IPS that suffers from less IPS glow than the ones mentioned? I understand it is inherently in the tech.

How bad is the IPS glow in reality?

Does it actually detract from the gaming experience or are people being OCD?

Any reasons to consider the TN versions instead of IPS?

Lower latency is not an issue I am concerned about as this is the obvious answer for many with TN panels.
 
Depends on you really. How far away the monitor is. Brightness settings. You’re tolerance. Lighting conditions etc. As well as the IPS lottery.

IPS glow is something that all IPS displays have and severity is down to a panel basis on design, tolerances, quality control etc.

IPS bleed is a defect where the screen leaks light usually in the corners giving an orange glow visible at any angle.

It can be distracting if you play in the dark and for me personally I’d rather put up with a little less colour and viewing angle than IPS bleed/glow from experience.
 
I think it would bother me as I currently game on a OLED TV so I am used to excellent display.

Me too and depends on what you want. Nothing will come close to the picture quality of OLED without spending thousands on a FALD monitor.

In my opinion you are best off getting a decent well reviewed VA as they have better contrast + blacks but lesser viewing angles and response time. I actually have a LG 32” VA 165hz 1440p and it is a great gaming display.

If viewing angles are your primary concern then an IPS may be more suited. Just need to take things like IPS glow etc into consideration.

Best to look at videos on YT to know exactly what to expect in terms of glow + possible bleed.
