Hi all,

I am looking for recommendations on a CPU to use for my Mini ITX build. I am trying to keep it relatively cheap, but I don't mind spending a little bit more if performance warrants it. It is just a mobile gaming PC using a GTX 480, I'm not expecting to run everything in Ultra High just for games to be reasonably playable.

Cheapest option is a Pentium G870 or G2120. Next up would be an i3 3225 or i3 3240. And as a final alternative, I could look to buy an i5 3570 or something from the Members Market.

Is it even worth considering the Pentium's for £60 or the i3's for £100 when I could possibly bag an i5 from the MM for £120? And failing getting an i5, would the be worth the extra £40 over the Pentium?

Lots of questions, I just can't decide what the best bang for buck is.

Thanks

An i5 off the members market would be the best investment, imho, heck it doesn't even need to be a 3570, an i5 3330 or 3470 would still be a better investment than a new Pentium or i3.

Failing that, i3... Pentium is just going to be bottlenecking you more and sooner...

I'd aim for i5, but not be fussed about whether it's unlocked or not, unless you specifically want to overclock(and have a motherboard that supports it, ie. z68, z77, etc..).

the 3220 isn't bad tbh if you can grab a cheap one, other than that a true quad core is the best to go for, pref one with hyperthreading

Well within 5 minutes of making this thread I have just sourced a 3570K from the Members Market for £110.

Good timing!
