1155 upgrade?

My old man is thinking of an upgrade (finally...) he still rolls an old Celeron which is just absolutely dire. I have a spare 1155 board so I was thinking of giving him that and my 2500k, my question: Ideally I don't want to be spending loads of cash so a motherboard and CPU upgrade for me is off the cards, is there anything 1155 CPU based that is worth an upgrade from a 2500k?

Or should I just build him something with new but budget parts and keep my 2500k and wait for Skylake or whatever comes after that?

Well it depends on how much total you have to spend. A new build will cost under £400.

YOUR BASKET
1 x "Recon H81 ITX" Intel Core i3/i5 Mini ITX Value Gaming Bundle £150.00
- 1 x Intel Core i3-4350 3.60GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £114.95
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £62.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £44.99
Total : £382.52 (includes shipping : £8.00 Ex.VAT).

Nowhere near that much, he would be getting something like an AMD 5350 if I had to build him something from new.

Try and find a 2nd hand 2500K/2600K/2700K/3570K/3770K ?

Maybe I wasn't very clear:

TL;DR - if I give my Dad my 2500k is there anything 1155 that is a worthwhile upgrade? so are any of those i7s worth ditching a 2500k for?

If all you do is game+browse then theres nothing worthwhile.

The 3570k is not even 10% better clock vs clock.

Yep, game, browse, films and music mainly.

I'll probably just throw something cheap together for the old man and stick with what I have if it's not worth it.
