Hi guys,

I bought the primo neo system a couple of years back from OC as a general pc but thinking about gaming as a change to consoles. Would it be more cost effective to upgrade current system on existing motherboard to get say 2 years worth of decent performance before upgrading again or build something around a new m/b?

Current specs:

Intel Core i3 550 3.2GHz @ 3.6GHz
Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H
Corsair XMS3 4GB
Corsair CX 500W
Artic Cooling Freezer Pro Rev 2
Seagate 7200.12 500GB
Xigmatek Asgard
OcUK DVD ReWriter

I was thinking an upgrade to the ram (8gb), cpu (i5 or i7) and installing a gpu (spec?) may provide something giving good performance.

Any suggestions?

If you were going to upgrade, you could do this:

i7 920 (secondhand) ~£70
Either Another 4GB of RAM or 8GB New ~£30-£60
7850 2GB ~£150

£250-£280

Thanks. Sounds like upgrading may be the route to go down if can get away with that kind of budget and decent performance. Makes me think that I can dip a toe in pc gaming before spending too much.

If you want a big more of a budget//secondhand option you can grab an older/cheaper GPU and see whether you prefer PC gaming or not before committing £300/£600 to it..

So instead of the 7850 you could get a secondhand:

GTX 460 ~ £50-£60
GTX 560ti ~ £80-£90
GTX 570 ~ £100-£110
6950 ~ £90
6870 ~ £70

Even the 460 is a good card, i had one until christmas. :)

Yeah just noticed that's a 1336 board?

My other option is to build something around the new i5-4670k chip that's assuming psu and case would be sufficient. Could probably go to £400-500 down that route as a friend has a case I could use.
