Hi, a simple question and hopefully not a complicated answer and hoping one of you may be able to help.

I have an i7 860 on 1156 socket that I want to overclock safely to about 4.0Ghz

I dont want temps to rise over about 50 degrees if possible?

Can anyone suggest me the best cooler for the job, I have looked at the Noctua NH-D14 but am concerned about size so am thinking the Thermalright Venomous X with 2 x SpiF2 120mm Fans

Can anyone guide me in the right direction please?

many thanks to anyone who can help and no i'm not against water cooling, just want the best tool for the job without spending more than necessary

There's nothing wrong with temps 50C+. My i7 920 @4ghz runs 75c under full load using a Venomous X with two Akasa Apaches.

Very unlikely without spending a lot of money. The 860s take a fair amount of voltage to hit 4ghz, more so than the 920s, so they run hot.

Mine running at 4.1 maxes out at about 60-65*C under water, though admittedly I've also got a fairly heavily clocked 5850 in the loop too (Ek supreme LT block, DDC ultra pump and pa120.3 so not a bad loop either).

Is there any reason you want below 50*C? These chips are happy to run hotter.

As said it's impossible to get under 50c unless you use refrigeration or a hybrid TEC watercooling solution.

It was a piece of mind type of thing plus I want to be able to push it further than 4.0Ghz :)

Also I really don't feel comfortable running at 75 degrees, i like things as cool as possible.

After you mentioning the TEC cooler i spotted this:

Obviously I know its not 1156 socket, but with this type of system, do you just buy it and bolt on? or is there loads of other things that would need to go with it?

also liking the look of the cooler master V8 and the results that thing produces on the reviews, anyone have any first hand experience? and also can you get an adapter to fit it to an 1156?

Sorry for all the questions
