As the LGA1156 socket is last generation then you will need to look second hand (generally no warranty) if you want a board to work wit it. Is that OK?
As for what boards to go for, yes the P55 chipset boards are generally the best and they also can offer other features like SLI/CF and more I/O ports.
Generally the Gigabyte P55 UD3, UD4P and UD5 boards would be the ones I would go for - as gigabyte UD series boards are well made and overclock well. It is also worth considering the ASUS P7P55D series and MSI P55 GD series boards, these are also well made and overclock well.
However, personally I would suggest you sell on the CPU for as much as you can and buy a new Sandy Bridge (or Ivy bridge if you are willing to wait till the end of the month) i3 or i5 CPU and a Z68 chipset motherboard (or Z77/Z75 if you can wait a few days). This gives you the benefit of a new board (so full warranty), much greater CPU performance, low power usage/heat output and more features (SATA3, USB3, PCIE gen3). However, unless you go for a K-series CPU you won't be able to overclock much (non-K i5) or at all (i3).
