One of the machines in my household (we play a lot of co-op games) has an i5-11600k CPU. We know this machine is due for a rebuild but wondering if we can get another 1 or 2 years out of it?

Usage: Latest AAA games at 1440p. Aiming for 60fps (let's say the rest of the hardware is capable), not into "competition" fps but hate to play at under 45.

Been anxious about UE5 supposedly hammering CPUs. Interested in your thoughts about it :)

Sure. It'd work with something like a 9060 XT 16GB or 9070.

It would be a very bad time to upgrade to a new DDR5 platform.

for the sake of keeping it a CPU discussion, let's assume I have an overclocked 5090 with 3GB modules hacked in by a Chinese AI researcher

Assuming it performs similar to a regular 5090, then you'd be daft to be using a 11600K. That said, a 5090 for 1440p/60 wouldn't make much sense either.

You can't really look at the cpu in isolation for gaming, the cpu and gpu both have significant roles to play and work as a team if you like.

As above you'd wouldn't generally pair a £1000 gpu with a cpu worth approx £100-150... It would be rediculously unbalanced.

So what's your full system spec currently?

Nah, this has nothing to do with it.

If you don't know how heavy are World Partition, Mass Entity, Lumen and Chaos physics on the CPU - just say so.

Thanks for the chat

The GPU is completely relevant as the important thing about your system is where the bottleneck is. Bit of a silly comment tbh
