As the title really. I'd like to know if an 11th Gen 11700K will work in an Asus Strix Z490 F Gaming. I gather it will, but, I don't know if it will need a BIOS update. BIOS updates are not something I have done before and I do realise that this has the potential to brick your PC if not done correctly, so, I'd rather avoid that scenario :eek:. This is for my son's PC and he has been offered the 11700K by a mate. He is currently running a 10600K. A definitive answer would be really appreciated.
 
Will it work: yes. Z490 is compatible with 11th gen.

Will it need a BIOS update? It depends. According to Asus here, you need BIOS: 2103 (dated 28 April 2021) or newer to have support for 11th gen CPUs.

Brilliant! Thanks Tetras. His PC is in bits for cleaning at the moment so as soon as it's back together I'll check the BIOS version. :cool:

He is asking if an updated BIOS (if necessary) will be compatible with his 10600K for the time being. I believe it will, but I'm not certain.
