Xbox 360 owners will now be able to download movies in high definition with Microsoft bringing the successful Xbox Live video marketplace to the UK, but UK Live product manager Robin Burrowes believes this is only the start of an exciting period for the console.

From December 11th standard and high definition movies will be available to download and rent with older 'library' films available for around £2 for SD and £3.20 for HD and new movies for a little more.

"This heralds the next stage in our journey," Robin Burrowes told MSN Tech & Gadgets. "There have been various announcements in this phase of the lifecycle and offering HD movies is the next point.

I like this, the more avenues to purchase movies the better, I just hate buying 'microsoft points', I'd much prefer it if it was directly linked to my credit card and I could pay just the price of the game/film I want to buy and not have virtual 'change'.

The problem is the UK broadband market, a HD movie streamed would take a lot of people up to what their monthly limit. Most (obviously not all) broadband suppliers now impose a 40gb/month limit, so microsoft really need to work with xbox friendly ISP's to give the customer a better package.

This is something i would like to take advantage off, but with my current ISP, it is not possible to download more than really one or at most two movies a month before i compromise my broadband experience.
