Hi all,

Hoping to order this lot soon, looking for some feedback/comments?

Total £1,222.56

Anything I should swap out?

Are the PSU cables long enough for that case?

Is the RAM suitable? I'm not too sure on speccing RAM.

Will that mobo and cooler combo be able to clock the i7 to 4ghz, or am I looking a little less than that?

Don't need, keyboard, mouse, speakers or monitor :)

Many thanks!

Looks like a good build mate. Very similar to mine only ive got a standard 920 and not the d0 stepping version and im waiting for fermi before getting a new gfx card.

The case is fantastic and one of the best for keeping the cables tidy. For overclocking im not sure how good that cooler would be but I run a corsair h50 and keeps idle temps to between 29 and 33 on my 3.8gig 920.

seems good to me.
i have that cooler on my i7 920 D0 and it knocked nearly 9degrees off the stock coolers temp. not tried to oc yet as i dont have great airflow in my case, so with the case you have and that fan then it should be more than capable.
cant say there is anything there i would swap, other than maybe the psu, is 750w needed?

Cheers for the speedy responses!

I guess 3.8 would be a more reasonable target then :)

Yeah the PSU may be overkill, it's a very nice one though, plus I wanted modular and am a sucker for shiny lights! Gives me headroom for crossfire too.

I was going to wait for fermi but with Bad Company 2 getting close I want to be all ready to max it out.

Probably order it later, cheers again. Any more comments welcome.

i have the 550w version of that psu and must admit it handles my stuff fine.

Only thing that stands out to me is the WD Green hard drive? Most people use them for storage (theyre low power but slower than the blue or black) are you using it as your main drive?

Yeah it will be my main and only drive. I didn't know they were slow speed!

Any other suggestions for a nice fast big single drive? I wanted an SSD but still too expensive for anything over 250GB. Raid is also an option I guess for speed but not done it before so a bit unsure?

Western Digital Black series or the Samsung F1 Series are both pretty solid/quick and quiet drives :)

Well apparently that RAM I chose is out of stock.

I changed the order to Corsair XMS3 6GB DDR3 1600mhz (TR3X6G1600C9)

I this RAM any good? Is there a big noticeable difference between 1600 and 2000mhz?

To be honest unless your pushing for a really high overclock it wont make any difference. Corsair memorys usually pretty decent.

Make sure you order a 7200RPM drive if it's your main, the green is 5400RPM. Hardly green either, lol, massive marketing bull**** :).

Ahh ok that's good to hear. Hoping for 3.8ghz, maybe 4 but we'll see that may be a little abitious :)

Just got to wait for tomorrow so I can get building!

Just making my point and I gave numbers! :D

I hate these "Green Drives". It's like having an Audi R8 and a Ford Focus and labeling the Ford Focus "Green" for not using as much petrol. Such B/S.

Not wanting to go to far off topic to the OPs post, but the green drives have their place. You wouldnt want one as a main drive in a gaming rig, but as a storage drive their fine and in a server environment their essential, even though their slower they do use less power and even a bit less power in a data center means a lot of £'s saved ;)

Not to get too geeky but the WD 'green' drives dont run at 5400rpm they are actually set individually at between 5,400 and 7,200rpm depending on what speed uses the least power for the particular drive :cool: pretty decent for media centre PC's etc or people not bothered about performance.

personally i would have gone for the F3, they are the newer series from F1 i believe

Yep F1 and F3 are both decent, F2 is slower though:

F1 = 3 platters 333Gb each - spin speed 7200rpm
F2 = 2 platters 500Gb each - spin speed 5400rpm
F3 = 2 platters 500Gb each - spin speed 7200rpm

:p
