1200w enough?

Uh, ok, sorry? Is it against the rules or something? But yeah, I believe dual 290s are fine on 850W so three should be fine on 1200

Oh, I thought you guys were friends and he was joking with you....

Yeah it's not so much three 290's that concerns me. Run fine with a clocked 4790.

But I know the 3960x are power gobblers, so wasn't sure if that would push it over the edge...

I dunno if it's a joke or not either :P lol

I would think it still should be enough with a 3960X, roughly speaking the GPUs will draw about 950W and the 3960 I doubt will take over 350W, so you should be fine :)

Derp yes 250W

The PSU should be able to take ~1300W though for short periods of time

No more as it looks totally spammy and is in every post from you as you said last night you've over used it.

When I used to mine Scrypt algo my rig would pull 1250w at the wall, All 3 290's were oc'd heavily but that 1250w figure is with almost 0 CPU use in the mix.

When you say oced heavily, can you give an indication of how much?

Doesn't sound promising though.

Probably going end up 3960x and dual gpu, or...

Try a different z97 board, and keep triple gpu...

Right, sorry

Perhaps 1200W isn't enough then? I would have thought it would be, probably not then! Probably safer with one of those whopper 1500 units in that case? I think there is a PSU calculator somewhere, perhaps good idea to try that?

1100/1500, GPU's were at 100% 247, 1250w draw at the wall on plat psu, Had WC pump, ~10 120mm fans and 5 sata drives being powered too.

I don't expect the fans have much of a difference lol, in comparison to the GPUs/drives. I think if you were at that kind of load though, it's probably not safe to run a 1200W PSU?
YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair AX1500i Digital ATX 80 Plus Titanium Modular Power Supply (CP-9020057-UK) £329.99
1 x EVGA SuperNova G2 1300W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply (120-G2-1300-XR) £169.99
Total : £514.08 (includes shipping : £11.75).

The thing is, the 1500W PSU is veeeery expensive compared to 1300W units

Doing a PSU calculator test, it shows 1013W at 90% load?! either way, stonedpenguin's tests show differently, so probably best to go with a 1300W + PSU OR go for two PSU's if possible?

I believe the Antec PSU's have a connect function thing so two PSU's can work together
