On the alienware M17x, when choosing your LCD your given an option for an extra £200 you can have a 120HZ 3D WideFHD screen, is adding this worth it? Is it full 3D or is it a 2D conversion? And does it come with glasses? Also is the normal 1920x1080 at 60HZ?

It comes with a 3-d glasses(1 no.) and yes normal screen is a 60Hz screen. The experience of gaming on this screen is mind-blowing but for me it was a bit of overkill considering the price.

Is the extra 60HZ £200 worthy though? Hmm I can imagine double the refresh rate being very nice

120hz is very nice for fps style games, and 3d vision is also really cool. Considering the cost already of that laptop, the extra 60hz seems like a worthwhile investment to me. Overpriced yes, but worthwhile.

What do you mean 3D is gimmicky?
I recently also got myself a Samsung SA700 23" 120Hz 3D monitor. Having tried it on Guild Wars 2, DC Universe Online and Left4Dead 2, I would say while it is fun or funny to see how things are being in 3D in those games, but if I was to be honest, I don't think it actually improve the "gaming experience". I wouldn't mind gaming in 3D every now and then...but I think I would actually prefer 120fps more. I think if it was driving/sim games etc, then the 3D would be much more worthwhile to use.

3D for watching movie though would be more practical I think.
