I have a monitor that only allows 120hz on the dvi port however id like to use my ps3 on it in 120hz. Would it work if i got an all in one hdmi to DVI cable or does it not work like that :'(

Hi there, May I ask what 120Hz monitor you are using?

The PS3 can't output a 120Hz video signal, so if a standard adapter like this doesn't work then I wouldn't imagine that cable would either if the monitor can't display a 60Hz signal through the DVI port.

Does your monitor have a VGA port?

..ur kidding?? >< I never knew that -_- OH well ignore my question then lol and the monitor im using is LG w2363d. Alas no, only HDMI and dvi ports :( Its a pretty crap monitor tbh compared to my samsung monitor. I only bought it to play blu ray movies on through my pc -_- and for some reason the blu rays wont play at 120hz lol so all in all its a bit of a bugger really :)

Ah, right - fair enough.

Therefore I'd suggest you just use the HDMI port on the monitor (which is probably what you already do).

As for blu-ray movies - what do you mean play them at 120Hz? The source movies should only be 24Hz, so won't really look much better on a standard 120Hz monitor. If you want them to to look smoother in motion then I would suggest getting a TV which uses the interpolating technology to add extra frames (by guessing - effectively) - often they are advertised as "600Hz" or similar. This makes the video looks smoother, but there can be some issues when changing scenes.

:( ah... then i guess i am a total noob >< lol! i thought the BR ran at real life speeds..or what ever and they were limited by 60hz tvs/monitors >< total noob here lol. sorry about that. Thanks for setting me straight lol :D

If you aren't happy with the LG, then you could send it back under DSR.

As a replacement, this Dell U2311H is an excellent monitor that uses a high-quality E-IPS panel (great for accurate colours and wide viewing angles - so you don't get the annoying colour shift when you move your head slightly-off centre which you get with TN panels). It is only 60Hz, but it handles motion very well and if you are mainly playing PS3 and Blu-rays then 60Hz is fine and the higher quality panel will make everything look nicer. Here is a review.

Since the U2311H doesn't have a HDMI connection then you would need a HDMI switch box like this and this adapter to run both the TV and PC on it, but once these are installed the image quality is just as good as if it had a native HDMI port (since HDMI and DVI pass the same video signal, the only difference is the pin arrangement).

I bought it on april the 5th :( so cant really send it back now :'( Or i would. WOW that monitor does look amazing! Although im also planning on getting a 3d kit :( So wouldnt be able to use it on that monitor. Shame thought. I may get a 3rd monitor though.. and tbh i think that one will be on my short list :D thanks for the heads up ;)

I think you are disappointed because you wanted games and Blu-rays to look smoother. Particularly the latter but that wasnever going to happen as has been pointed out to you multiple times on your threads: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=18873060&postcount=10 and http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=18855346&postcount=19. On the latter thread you also shared with us that some of your favourite games titles run at 60fps or less - thus nullifying the advantages of a 120Hz monitor. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18260526.

So yes. I understand your disappointment but all of the signals were there early on and you could have acted earlier if you wanted. I think part of you wants to keep the monitor though. ;)

You said you wanted to go 3D anyway :D

Worth the cost of a pair of glasses. I don't use it as much as I was hoping, but it's utterly superb for 3D films and racing games.
