I need a new monitor as my DGM 24" is about to crap out.

I can get an LG IPS234V-PN 23" 1080p for £120

or perhaps the 144hz BenQ for £250?

or a 2560x1440/1600 panel?

I want to spend no more than £300. I am using an AMD 7950 Boost and i5 2500k.

I'm really bewildered by all this 3D, lightboost, panel overclocking stuff. How much would it actually cost to get up and running with proper 3D, assuming I traded in my 7950 for a 770 (or whatever card I would need to drive 120fps)?

What would you buy for gaming? Single player only.

People have their own personal preferences, I was in a similar situation as yourself while looking for a monitor and decided to go down the 2560x1440 IPS route and I am not disappointed by it, but before you make your decision - what would be the main games you think you'l play?
A 120/144hz monitor (while giving an enhanced smooth experience while navigating windows) will really give a great experience for FPS gaming and if you are a heaving gamer with FPS I'd recommend you go down the 120/144hz , if you play a large range of games but dont play FPS far to much, you might benefit from an IPS monitor with a high resolution :)

There are a LOT of FPSes in my to-do list, I do like most types of games though. I think I'm leaning most toward 120HZ, but I'm worried I won't get the benefit in FC3, Crysis 3 etc because even getting 60fps in those games is hard.

if you cant get over 60fps then I see little point in buying a 120hz monitor. Might as well enjoy better colours at 60hz.

I'm an avid FPS gamer and in 2002 I went from a CRT 20" running 120Hz to a 60Hz 17"TFT I have been used to 60Hz till today. Now I sit with 2560x1440, PLS, 60Hz but I can still hit my friends online in fast paced shooters even though they sit with 120Hz TFT screens.

An old proverb from aviation goes like this:
"It is not about the planes, it is about the pilots who fly them"
