Hi,
I have just purchased from OC 3 Samsung S23a700D 3d monitors to run on eyefinity but I am having problems getting them all to use 120hz.

I have tested each monitor and each DVI cable in every permitation in the 2 ports on GFX card and or the powered displayport and they will all run 120hz in fact if I plug any 2 in any order they will run 120hz but as soon as the 3rd one is connected I can only select 60hz.

In the catalyst control "My digital flat panels" option in "properties" I can select panel 1 and see its "Max reported refresh rate is 120hz panel 2 is 120hz but panel 3 is 60hz. I have tried everything to get all 3 in 120hz but cant crack it.

Resolution has not effect so if set it to 1920x1080 or 5760x1080 its still the same. All drivers are up to date. Also dont worry about the 3d aspect I am not using it but it does work fine when tested but will take so getting used to so I shelved that for now.

My setup
Quad core Q8300
AMD HIS HD6900 gfx card
Startech Mini DisplayPort to DVI Dual-Link Active Adapter – USB Powered
8GB Ram
Windows 7 64bit Ultimate

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I think your problem is that one of the DVI connectors on the 69xx series cards is only single link so it won't support 1080p @ 120Hz.

Ahh so that just a gfx card problem that I can do nothing about then?
If thats the case I can stop messing with it and will have it make sure I plan ahead next time it comes to gfx upgrade time.

Thanks for your help.

You're welcome.

You can check by looking at which connector the monitor working at 60Hz is connected to.

If the card has 2 miniDP connectors then you can get the third monitor running at 120Hz by getting another one of the miniDP to dual link DVI adapters.

If you have a look at the connectors themselves then they may be labled.

If one says VGA next to it then that's the dual link one.

Whether or not it's worth spending the £75 I couldn't say.

I use a single monitor and have gone for higher resolution rather than higher frequency so couldn't tell you what the difference was like.

Can you see any difference yourself between the monitors running at 120Hz and the one running at 60Hz?

Not easy as you have to look at 60 than unplug some and reset to 120 so not like I can side by side them. I do think 120 looks sharper but honestly that could be the ole brain wanting to see a better image because it know what this lot cost

Think I will leave as is for now and see how I get on as even a GFX card upgrade will need 2 display ports by the looks of it as the 79 series only has 1 dvi socket.

When you upgrade see what's available.

Nvidia's GTX 670 & 680 at the moment provide 2 dual link DVIs so that's 2 monitors sorted and then you'd need one dual link adapter.

If you're going to be running all 3 monitors at 60Hz than it might be worth getting a refund on the £75 adapter and just buying a £20-£25 single link one.

You can look at the situation again when you upgrade your graphics card.
